Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey?
I think the JonBenet Ramsey tragedy is one of those cases where the privilege that comes with wealth allowed perpetrators to successfully block investigators and destabilize the justice system long enough to allow the clock to run out. Technically, the case is still listed as “open,” but it seems unlikely that anyone will ever be prosecuted and one of the principals, the child’s mother, is deceased.
This is one of those cases where common sense was just ground away into fine glass splinters under the mill of speculation. This speculation turned Byzantine and this worked to the advantage of the perpetrators.
We all know the significant problems in this case. The crime scene was horribly compromised by the human traffic through the Ramsey home on the morning after the murder. The false confession of Karr. The D.A.’s refusal to bring charges after the grand jury indictment. And on and on.
But use common sense. The ransom note was a ridiculous canard. Patsy Ramsey’s handwriting could not be ruled out. The implement used to write the note came from the Ramsey kitchen and belonged to Patsy. The notepad, also Patsy’s, revealed signs of drafting. An unusual turn of phrase (“and hence”) is one known to have been used by Patsy in previous writings. A three page ransom note is historically unprecedented.
After listening to Patsy’s manner of expression in interviews, much of the wording of the ransom note seems to match up with her penchant for the emphatic.
