The Tale of Jeremiah

The Witch of Kawdor on any given day could be pleased by any number of things in her life. But, of all the splendid things in her life, she was most pleased with her winged kitten Jeremiah.

Jeremiah was an orange tabby kitten with white wings bigger than his body. These wings sparkled like the underbelly of magic toads and they chimed as they rubbed together when Jeremiah was deep in thought. They also chimed when Jeremiah lay dreaming in a circle of kitten sleep.

One day Jeremiah took it into his small head to fly over the wall which surrounded the Kingdom of Kawdor and sealed it off from interlopers and nosy-parkers. He knew he wasn’t supposed to do this. The Witch was on decent enough terms with her neighbors, but not to the point where she welcomed any visits or went visiting herself.

Jeremiah saw a splendid palace that looked like the ones he had seen in picture books so he flew straight for it. He was curious to see what sort of royal goings-on were taking place in that castle with all the turrets and pennants. In fact, he flew right through an open window of the Queen’s Throne Room and landed on her lap.

“Goodness? What are you?” the Queen exlaimed.

“I am Jeremiah. I come from Kawdor. What is the name of this beautiful kingdom? While flying over your domain I saw that it is very rainy over here. I like it. I like rain quite a bit. The Witch isn’t such a big fan of rain in Kawdor, so we have very little of it there.”
