Moonlight

All night long the moon
donating, donating.
Done eating, says the ocean
at dawn.

All that moonlight
went somewhere, you think,
walking on the beach.
Barefoot as your mind

when you watch gulls
fly into the coldest part
where sky colors just before dawn
replace pity with nutrition.
