25 Years Later: A Useful Referral on DNA Evidence in the JonBenet Ramsey Case
We’ve been given so much contradictory information regarding DNA evidence in the unsolved murder of JonBenet Ramsey.
Many considered it a watershed moment in the case when then-D.A. Mary Lacy of the Boulder Police Department issued an ex cathedra exoneration of John and Patsy Ramsey (posthumously for the latter) in 2008. This “exoneration” was not legally binding and has since been walked back by a subsequent holder of the office.
For an understanding of why this is so, it is helpful to read an explanation of the DNA evidence in the case of JonBenet Ramsey and see what it does and does not say about the possibility of an intruder into the home being the perpetrator of this horrible crime.
Here is a great resource for understanding all the often-conflicting information given by various media sources on the DNA evidence found under the victim’s fingernails and on various articles of her clothing. DNA testing in 1997 and DNA testing in subsequent decades varied wildly in their respective sensitivities and specificities: https://www.reddit.com/r/JonBenetRamsey/comments/l0ev4y/dna_evidence_in_the_ramsey_case_faqs_and_common/
If you have an interest in this case, I hope you will find this to be helpful. While not dispositive of the matter, it does help bring clarity and dispels many of the untruths still circulating in the media, a quarter of a century after the fact.
